Half Moon Bay, CA
Ceramic Coating in Half Moon Bay — From $799
Salt off the harbor and dust off the farm roads land on your paint every day. A ceramic layer means that grit rinses away instead of getting ground into your clear coat.
Protection Built for Salt Air and Farm Dust
Golden Bay Detailing installs System X and Gyeon ceramic coatings throughout Half Moon Bay and the Coastside — downtown Main Street, Princeton-by-the-Sea, El Granada, Miramar, Moss Beach, and Montara. Pricing is simple: $799 for a 2-3 year coating, $1,499 for the 6-year System X Pro+, and $2,499+ for System X Max. Every tier includes a 1-step paint correction, and we install at your home with our own water and power.
Half Moon Bay hands paint a problem most towns don't have: two attacks at once. Salt-loaded marine air rolls in off Pillar Point Harbor and sits on every panel, and the same week your car collects dust off the farm roads, grit from the pumpkin fields, and fine debris blowing off the flower greenhouses. The salt keeps the surface damp and the dust turns into an abrasive slurry. Wipe that off with a dry towel and you are polishing your own paint with dirt.
A properly bonded ceramic coating changes what happens next. The surface is slick and chemically resistant, so salt film and agricultural dust sit on top of the coating instead of clinging to the clear coat. A rinse takes most of it off before anything touches the paint. That single change — less dry wiping — is the difference between paint that still looks deep after a couple of Coastside winters and paint that has gone hazy.
We're an owner-led mobile crew and a System X certified installer, so the person who quotes your car is the person who coats it. Below: what a coating handles out here, what it honestly does not, real prices, and how install day works in a Half Moon Bay driveway.
What the Coastside Does to Half Moon Bay Paint
- Marine layer keeps panels damp for hours, so salt stays active instead of drying and blowing off
- Wind off Pillar Point Harbor drives salt spray inland well past Highway 1
- Farm-road dust and field grit settle on top of that damp film and turn abrasive
- Produce trucks and open beds along Highway 1 and Highway 92 throw fine debris onto everything behind them
- Greenhouse and nursery dust sticks to horizontal panels — hood, roof, and trunk lid take the worst of it
- Every dry-towel wipe on a gritty panel adds swirl marks you will see the next sunny day
Why Wax Loses Out Here — and What Ceramic Won't Do
Wax is a soft sacrificial layer. In Half Moon Bay conditions it gives up fast — constant moisture, salt, and dust strip it long before the months the label promises. Sealants last longer but follow the same curve. A ceramic coating is different in kind: it cures into a hard, chemically resistant layer bonded to the clear coat, so salt film and agricultural dust sit on the coating instead of bonding to your paint, and a rinse takes most of it off. Now the honest part. Ceramic coating is not armor. It will not stop rock chips off Highway 92 or Highway 1, it will not prevent deep scratches, and it will not undo damage that is already in your paint. It also does not replace washing — a coated car still gets washed, it is just far easier to wash and far less likely to pick up swirls while you do it. What a coating does is take the chemical and UV hit instead of your clear coat, for years. If you want physical impact protection on a front end, that is paint protection film — a different product, and we will tell you straight which one your situation actually calls for.
- Does well: salt film, agricultural dust, UV, road grime, water spotting, chemical etching
- Buys you time, not immunity: bird droppings and tree sap still need rinsing off promptly
- Does not do: rock chips, deep scratches, dents, or fixing damage already in the paint
- Does not replace washing — it makes washing faster and much safer for your finish

Install Day in Your Own Driveway
Half Moon Bay is an easy town to work in. Lots are big, driveways are long, and there is usually room to set up without blocking anyone. We arrive with our own water and power — nothing is borrowed from your house unless you would rather we use it. A coating install is a full-day job: wash, iron and clay decontamination, machine correction, a wipe-down that strips every trace of polishing oil, then panel-by-panel application and leveling. The marine layer is part of working out here — we manage the surface the coating cures on, and if conditions genuinely will not cooperate we reschedule rather than rush an install that has to last years. The alternative is dropping the car over Highway 92 to San Mateo or driving up Highway 1 to Pacifica or Daly City, then making the round trip again to pick it up. That is two half-days of your life for a job we can do while you are home. You get one quoted price before we book, and that is the price on install day.
- You provide a parking spot — driveway, garage, or a level street space all work
- Owner-led: the person who quotes your car is the person who preps and coats it
- Honest paint check first — if your paint needs a body shop instead of a coating, we say so
- Aftercare instructions for the cure period before we leave
Boats at Pillar Point Harbor
Pillar Point is a working harbor, and gelcoat takes the same salt beating your paint does — worse, because it never really gets to dry out. We detail boats as well as cars: wash, decontamination, oxidation removal, gelcoat polish, and System X Marine ceramic coating, and we are certified for the marine line the same way we are for automotive. If you own a car in El Granada or Princeton-by-the-Sea and keep a boat at the marina, mention both when you request a quote and we will price them together — it is usually one trip for us and one conversation for you.
- Oxidation removal and gelcoat compound + polish
- Metal and glass polishing — rails, cleats, and trim
- System X Marine ceramic coating for hull and topsides
- Send photos of the hull and topsides for a quote
Half Moon Bay Ceramic Coating FAQs
Not Ready to Coat? Start Here Instead
A coating is a multi-year commitment and it is not right for every car. If yours is a work truck, a lease you are returning, or just needs to look good again before you decide anything, start smaller. An exterior detail is $149, a mini detail is $249, and a full interior-and-exterior detail is $399 — that alone pulls off the salt film and embedded dust and shows you what your paint actually looks like underneath. From there, a maintenance plan from $149/mo keeps it that way. Detail first, watch how fast the salt film comes back on your street, and coat later if it earns it. That is a reasonable way to decide, and we would rather you decide it that way than be talked into $1,499 you were not ready for.
