    Detailing Built for Coastside Cars

Golden Bay Detailing brings full mobile car detailing to Half Moon Bay — the streets off Main Street, plus El Granada, Miramar, Princeton-by-the-Sea, Moss Beach, and Montara. Exterior details start at $149, mini details are $249, and full interior-and-exterior details start at $399. We show up self-contained with our own water and power, so nothing gets borrowed from your house.

Cars out here take two kinds of abuse at once. Salt spray rides the onshore wind in from Pillar Point Harbor and the Mavericks side of the point, then the marine layer keeps every panel damp so the salt never gets a dry day to stop working. At the same time, the farm roads off Highway 92 and the lanes past the pumpkin fields and flower nurseries coat everything in dust that turns to a mud film the first foggy morning.

Interiors get it worse than most people admit. Sand from Poplar and Venice Beach works deep into the carpet weave and under the seat rails, wet dogs and wetsuits soak into fabric, harbor grit tracks in from Princeton, and a produce run leaves dirt in the cargo area that a home vacuum just pushes around. Our deep interior process — vacuum, steam, hot-water extraction, odor treatment — was built for exactly this.

Real prices, the full process, and honest coastside answers are below. No quote games.

What the Coastside Does to a Half Moon Bay Car

    • Salt spray blows inland from Pillar Point Harbor and settles on paint, trim, and wheel wells — then the fog keeps it wet and working
    • Marine layer moisture sits on panels past noon; when it finally dries, minerals etch spots into unprotected clear coat
    • Farm and nursery dust off Highway 92 and the field roads bakes onto paint and turns to a gritty film after the first damp night
    • Beach sand from Poplar and Venice works into carpet weave, seat rails, seat belts, and door jambs — and scratches paint the second anyone wipes a dry panel
    • Dog hair woven into upholstery after every beach run, plus the damp-dog smell that follows it
    • Harbor grit, bait residue, and wet gear riding home in the trunk from Princeton-by-the-Sea

    The Deep Interior Process

Most Half Moon Bay interiors we open have three problems stacked on top of each other: sand, hair, and moisture. Cleaning them in the wrong order just moves the mess around, so we work in sequence and we do not rush the middle of it. A deep interior clean starts at $249 and runs about 3 to 4 hours depending on how many beach seasons are in the carpet; heavily soiled or oversized vehicles get a custom quote before we start.

    • Full teardown vacuum — mats out, seats moved, carpet weave agitated so sand comes up instead of settling deeper
    • Pet hair pulled with rubber tools and brushes before any liquid touches the fabric
    • Steam on vents, console seams, cup holders, door pockets, and the crevices sand hides in
    • Hot-water extraction on carpet and cloth seats to lift salt, mud, and spilled produce-run dirt
    • Leather cleaned and conditioned; plastics and vinyl cleaned to a matte finish, not a greasy shine
    • Odor treatment that targets the mildew and damp-dog source instead of covering it with fragrance
    • Interior glass cleaned last, so the salt haze on the inside of the windshield actually stays gone

Why Wax Gives Up Out Here

A coat of wax is a soft sacrificial layer sitting on top of your clear coat, and even in easy conditions it holds for weeks to a few months. Half Moon Bay is not easy conditions. Salt is chemically aggressive, the fog keeps it in contact with the surface, and the wind adds abrasive sand and farm dust on top — so wax gives up here faster than it would over the hill. A ceramic coating bonds to the paint instead of sitting on it: it shrugs off salt, sheds fog moisture before minerals can etch, and lets dust rinse away instead of grinding in. We are a System X certified installer with a manufacturer-backed warranty, and we also install Gyeon — 2 to 3 year coatings from $799, 6-year System X Pro+ at $1,499, and System X Max from $2,499. SUVs and trucks add $200. Every tier includes a 1-step paint correction, because sealing swirls under a coating just preserves them. If your paint already shows wipe swirls or etched water spots, correction is the fix: 1-step from $399, 2-step at $799, multi-stage from $1,199. Be clear on what a coating does not do — it will not stop a rock chip off Highway 1, it will not remove existing scratches on its own, and it does not mean you stop washing the car. It makes washing fast and keeps salt from sitting on bare clear coat.

Why Mobile Beats a Trip Over Highway 92

The real alternative to mobile service on the coast is a half-day. Drive 92 over the hill to a shop in San Mateo, drop the car, arrange a ride home, come back for it, drive 92 again — and if the shop runs late, that is your afternoon. We drive it instead. We arrive self-contained with our own water and power, so a driveway in El Granada, a flat spot on a Miramar street, a Moss Beach carport, or a lot near Main Street all work fine. Exterior details take 1 to 2 hours, full details 3 to 5, and coatings take a full day, so we plan cure time around where you park. Marine layer mornings are normal here and we schedule around them — if weather would genuinely affect a coating install, you hear that when we book, not after. Look the car over before we pack up; that is half the point of having it done in your own driveway.

Not Ready for a Full Detail Yet

Not every car needs the $399 job today, and we will tell you when it does not. If your paint is in decent shape and you just want the salt film and dust gone, the $149 exterior detail does that. If the inside is the problem — sand, hair, a smell you notice every morning — start with a deep interior clean from $249. If you want the car to simply stay clean without thinking about it, a maintenance plan from $149 a month keeps salt from accumulating, which is the single most useful thing you can do for a coastside car. Coatings and correction will still be there when the timing is right, and the prep work we do now is not wasted.
