Foster City, CA
Ceramic Coating in Foster City — From $799
Geese, gulls and full sun work on your paint here every single day. A ceramic layer gives that mess something hard to land on instead of your clear coat — and buys you time to rinse it off.
Built for Lagoon Birds, Bay Salt, and No Shade
Golden Bay Detailing installs System X and Gyeon ceramic coatings across Foster City — Marlin Cove, Sea Colony, Isle Cove, Harbor Side, Bay Vista, the streets off Edgewater and Beach Park Boulevards, and the homes backing onto the Bay Trail levee. Pricing is fixed: $799 for a 2-3 year coating, $1,499 for the 6-year System X Pro+, and $2,499+ for System X Max, with $200 added for SUVs and trucks. Every tier includes a 1-step paint correction, and we do the whole install at your home with our own water and power.
Foster City is a planned town built on fill around a ring of residential lagoons, and that layout is exactly what makes it hard on paint. Geese, gulls and ducks work the water and the shoreline all year, and bird droppings are acidic — on a hot panel they can etch clear coat in hours, not days. The terrain is flat and engineered, with no hills to throw shade and open water on nearly every side, so cars sit in open sun from morning to evening while UV flattens unprotected paint. Wind coming off the Bay carries fine grit onto hoods and roofs, and brackish salt haze leaves a bonded film that a quick rinse does not fully remove.
A ceramic coating does not chase the birds off. What it does is put a hard, chemically resistant, UV-stable layer between all of that and your clear coat. An acidic dropping lands on the coating instead of the paint, so you have a real window to get it off before it marks anything. Salt film and Bay grit release under a rinse instead of clinging, which means fewer dry wipes — and fewer dry wipes is how paint here stays free of swirl marks.
We are an owner-led mobile crew and a System X certified installer, so the person who quotes your car is the person who preps and coats it. Below: what this town actually does to bare paint, why wax gives up on it, what a coating honestly will not do, real prices, and how install day works on a Foster City driveway.
What Foster City Does to Bare Paint
Every town on the Peninsula has its own way of wearing out a finish. Here is what shows up on cars we pick up in Marlin Cove, Sea Colony and Harbor Side.
- Geese, gulls and ducks work the lagoons and the shoreline year-round — droppings land on parked cars daily, not occasionally
- Bird droppings are acidic; on a sun-hot hood they can etch into clear coat within hours
- Flat, open, engineered terrain means no hills to throw shade — cars bake in full sun all day and UV dulls unprotected paint
- Wind straight off the Bay drops fine grit on horizontal panels, and the next dry wipe drags it across the finish
- Brackish Bay salt haze is milder than open-ocean salt but still corrosive, and it leaves a bonded film a quick rinse misses
- Water on nearly every side keeps that film damp longer, so it stays chemically active instead of drying and blowing off
Why Wax Loses This Fight
Wax is a soft sacrificial layer measured in weeks. In Foster City it is fighting sun from every angle, salt haze, and acid from above, and it gives up long before the months on the label. Sealants last longer but follow the same curve — they thin out, and you find out they are gone when a dropping leaves a ring. A ceramic coating is a different kind of product. It cures into a hard, chemically resistant layer bonded to your clear coat, and it is UV-stable, which matters more here than in a shaded neighborhood because your car has nowhere to hide from the sun. Salt film and Bay grit sit on top of the coating and release under a rinse. An acidic dropping has to work through the coating before it reaches paint, which is where your extra time comes from. That is the honest mechanism: not a force field, a buffer.
What a Ceramic Coating Will Not Do
We would rather you know the limits before you spend $799 or $1,499. A coating is chemical and UV protection. It is not armor, and it does not make your car bird-proof. A dropping left baking on a coated hood for days can still leave a mark — the coating buys you time to get it off, it does not remove the need to get it off. Here is the plain line between what it handles and what it does not.
- Does well: acidic bird droppings caught reasonably soon, UV fade, Bay salt film, water spotting, road grime, chemical etching
- Buys you time, not immunity: droppings and tree sap still need rinsing off — days of baking sun can still mark a coated panel
- Does not do: rock chips off Highway 92 or 101, deep scratches, dents, or damage already in your paint
- Does not replace washing — a coated car still gets washed, it is just faster and far less likely to pick up swirls
- For physical impact protection on a hood or bumper, paint protection film is the right product, and we will tell you so

Install Day on Your Foster City Driveway
Foster City is one of the easier towns we work in. The housing is newer, driveways are real driveways, and there is usually room to set up without blocking a neighbor. We arrive with our own water and power, so nothing comes off your house unless you would rather we use it. A coating install is a full-day job: wash, iron and clay decontamination, machine paint correction, a wipe-down that strips every trace of polishing oil, then panel-by-panel application and leveling. If you have a garage, we will use it for the cure window — but an open driveway works fine, and we plan around the sun rather than fighting it. The alternative is driving the car to a shop across the bridge or down 101 and making the round trip again to collect it. That is two half-days for a job we can do while you are home. You get one quoted price before we book, and that is the price on install day.
- You provide a parking spot — driveway, garage, or a level street space all work
- Owner-led: the person who quotes your car is the person who preps and coats it
- Honest paint check first — if your car needs a body shop instead of a coating, we say so
- Aftercare instructions for the cure period before we leave
- No travel fee — Foster City is inside our standard service area
Foster City Ceramic Coating FAQs
Not Ready to Coat? Start Smaller
A coating is a multi-year commitment and it is not right for every car. If yours is a lease you are handing back, a work truck, or just a car that needs to look decent again before you decide anything bigger, start with a detail. An exterior detail is $149, a mini detail is $249, and a full interior-and-exterior detail is $399. That alone pulls off the bonded salt film and the embedded grit and shows you what your paint actually looks like underneath. From there a maintenance plan from $149/mo keeps it that way. Detail first, watch how fast the birds and the salt haze come back on your street, and coat later if it earns it. We would rather you decide that way than be talked into $1,499 you were not ready for.
